520 |aForming measures of financial health can create an empirical basis with which managers and researchers can approximate organizational health and performance capacity. By combining interviews from nonprofit and for-profit firms with data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 990, this study attempts to answer the following question: Are there intra-organizational, financial factors and external factors that can stabilize and improve the financial health of music nonprofit organizations? In response to this question, this paper synthesizes past research in an extensive literature review of financial health. Next, it models organizations on a continuum, or spectrum, of financial wellbeing. The results suggest that there are certain factors that can stabilize financial health—specifically net income and decreased income dependency. However, interview responses and quantitative results do not always align. Finally, this study proposes that researchers have the tools to continue building a more accurate picture of the factors influencing financial health.
