Dustin Fife is College Librarian at Colorado College (a similar role to library director or dean). Before Colorado College, Dustin was Director of Library Services and Online Education at Western Colorado University. Prior to Western, he was Outreach and Access Services Librarian at Utah Valley University and the public Library Director for San Juan County, Utah. Dustin has served as President of the Learning Round Table of the American Library Association and President of the Utah Library Association. In 2016, he was recognized as a Library Journal Mover & Shaker. Dustin researches and writes about leadership and management in libraries, especially as it relates to antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion. "Our findings suggest that academic library leaders overwhelmingly believe that they are responsible for fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within their organizations; however, their belief in their ability to do so and overall responsibility does change in noteworthy ways depending on which concept is presented to them. This illustrates that we need to be intentional in how we use these terms. We need to define what we mean instead of always lumping them together. When we conflate the terms, we run the risk of everyone bringing their own definitions and priorities to initiatives and policies rather than building clarity and consensus.
