Description
Rock 'n' roll music in the 1950's and 60's attracted the attention of a large audience of both white and black teenagers. With this popular new medium, disc jockeys and musicians had a direct line of communication with the American youth. While most people remember the likes of Elvis Presley when thinking about rock 'n' roll music, there was a hugely influential group of African American DJ's, musicians, activists, and newspapers in Philadelphia who utilized the culture of rock 'n' roll to advance civil rights causes in society.
