Description
Historic documentation of life at the turn of the 19th century created by residents of Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1901 for the citizens of 2001. Under the direction of Louis R. Ehrich, a prominent 19th century businessman, the items were sealed in a chest which was stored in various buildings on the Colorado College campus until the official opening January 1, 2001 at the Charles Leaming Tutt Library. Contents of Ms349, Fd 58, Gardening - Patty Stuart Jewett include: 1 11-page, handwritten letter, dated August 3, 1901, addressed "To the Lovers of Gardens, of the Year of our Lord 2001, Greetings," signed by Patty Stuart Jewett, Chairman, Woman's Advisory Board of the Horticultural Society; 1 hand-drawn layout of garden of Patty Stuart Jewett; 1 3-page, handwritten letter, dated August 5, 1901, addressed "To the Horticultural Society of Colorado Springs of the year 2001. Greeting," signed by Patty Stuart Jewett; 2 b&w photos "Patty Stuart Jewett" and "William Kennow Jewett"; 2 envelopes addressed "To the Horticultural Society of Colorado Springs, 2001" and "To the Lovers of Gardens in 2001"; 2 printed copies of the program for the Third Annual Show of the El Paso County Horticultural Society; 2 printed copies of the list of officers and committees of the Horticultural Society for 1901; 1 printed copy of the by-laws of the Horticultural Society; 1 printed copy of an article on the Horticultural Society's annual meeting from the Colorado Springs Gazette, Sunday, February 3, 1901; 1 printed copy of the brochure, "All About Sweet Peas," published by W. Atlee Burpee & Co.; 3 printed catalogs from Andorra Nurseries of Philadelphia, Mount Hope Nurseries of Rochester, NY and Henry A. Dreer of Philadelphia; 13 printed, full-color catalog covers from numerous nurseries; 7 copies of articles on Colorado wildflowers from the Colorado Springs Gazette, undated.
