Abstract

In an effort to learn more about 19th Century Romanticism in Music, this paper seeks to uncover and understand themes of this movement within Germany. Rather than discuss all of Romanticism, this paper focuses on Early German Romanticism. Franz Schubert's Der Wanderer is used as a lens from which to view themes such as Nationalism, Loss, and Publicly Expressed Private Art.
