Abstract

An ethic of ecstatic pluralism if followed will bring us closer to a positive peace as defined by Johan Galtung. The term ecstatic pluralism was first used by the poet and sculptor Aguste Elder to describe the poetry of Walt Whitman, Allen Ginsberg and Jules Stern. Drawing upon both the pluralist tradition and the poetry of the aforementioned poets, ecstatic pluralism is an essential step on the road to peace. As Paulo Friere is known to have said: "The revolution must have good food!" The revolution will not happen among people who are miserable and crushed by the weight of any moment but rather by people who can rise above the tide of moments and live with reverence for life.
