As my senior capstone project for the Colorado College Music Department, I created an extended play record (EP) of demos recorded and produced between July 2020 and August 2022. Sandy Demos contains 6 tracks composed from acoustic instrumental recordings, digital and analog sound synthesis, and vocal recordings, and became a means of experimenting with music’s special capacity for self-expression. All the varying spaces, moods, and collaborations contained in this EP express a range of my experiences and emotions over the time in which I made them. At a time when isolation from the broader community and the experience of loss threatened to overwhelm the potential to connect easily with others for various reasons, music was a way to transcend the limits of language, so that I could both better understand myself and better share my inner world with my community.
