Abstract

This paper aims to contribute to our knowledge of climate gentrification (CG) by investigating the evolution of this phenomenon in Miami, Florida, from a multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder lens. By highlighting the different ways that government officials, developers, community organizers, academic researchers, and community advocates conceptualize CG and its implications for the city, we hope to help the community find a common language to address the challenges associated with CG and support residents and city planners in mitigating its effects. CG presents a complex phenomenon perceived differently by various stakeholder groups, necessitating a comprehensive exploration of its impacts on communities and their interpretations of the term. By engaging with diverse viewpoints and common objectives, policymakers can devise inclusive and sustainable strategies beneficial to all segments of society. This research explores the impact of climate-induced urban changes on communities and their relationship with the term ‘Climate Gentrification.' It highlights the ambiguity surrounding the term CG among stakeholders, indicating a crucial gap in research that necessitates a holistic understanding. Engaging with diverse perspectives and working towards shared goals allows policymakers to develop more inclusive and sustainable strategies that benefit all members of society. By analyzing various experiences and how they interact with CG, it hopes to highlight the need for targeted policies and interventions that address the equity implications of such changes.
