Abstract

This thesis provides an examination of how Hungary has positioned itself globally in the last century, using its popular visual culture as a tool of analysis. It focuses specifically on the works of Margit Kovács, and how her work was used by the state to create a homogenous and indigenous Hungarian that aligned with Western standards.
