Abstract

This is an in-depth study into the interaction between citizenship status and social determinants of health which influence health coverages in the United States. Using the 2022 American Community Survey, a multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted. The sample was 218,620 individuals aged 16 and older. The results indicated that citizenship is a significant predictor of health insurance, non-citizens have 71% lower odds of being covered compared to their citizen counterparts. This is true even after controlling for education, employment status, and income. Employment status and education level were found to be significant factors. The findings highlight the the health disparities that non-citizens face and the need for targeted policies to promote health equity. The study contributes to the broader literature on how social factors interact with citizenship status.
