Abstract
Mathematics has followed Eurocentric and Americentric influences causing many to believe mathematics to be culture-free and universal. Mathematics does hold indisputable truths, however it should not allow for its hegemonic history that excludes marginalized communities to be overlooked. This thesis approaches math history through an ethnomathematics approach to highlight the achievements of a non-European mathematician who helped advance mathematics. The mathematician selected is Víctor Neumann-Lara and this paper highlights his contributions to mathematics through a comprehensive biography and exploration of the Dichromatic Number of a Digraph, which is a concept Neumann-Lara founded in graph theory. The dichromatic number of a digraph is a generalization of the chromatic number of a graph.
